The Oceanthon is an all-digital hackathon, aimed at young talents who want to discuss and find innovative solutions to the challenges related to the Mediterranean Sea Decade
As UNESCO, we are certain that the ocean represents a great opportunity to address the challenges of mitigation and adaptation to climate change. The future that is coming is uncertain and full of challenges but science has recognized that a healthy ocean is a great ally in fighting this global climate crisis. It is imperative to maintain the quality of marine ecosystems and restore those that have been degraded.
Many innovative solutions and pilot projects have already shown that it is possible to restore marine biodiversity, preserve ecological functions and ecosystem services and implement ocean-based solutions for climate change adaptation and increased resilience. For this reason, it is time to get involved!
The initiative is aimed at students, the scientific community, the world of design, art, web development, engineering, communication, social sciences and business ready to use skills and entrepreneurial spirit for the present and future challenges of the planet, promoting greater knowledge of the ocean, its protection and the sustainable use of marine resources.
You can participate in the Oceanthon as a participant or as a mentor or nanny.
- Participant: You can create a team and present your innovative idea, or apply as an individual (you will have time to create a team or join an existing one later).
- Mentor or nanny: If you are experienced and like the idea of supervising the work of the teams, helping them during the Oceanthon to achieve success with their projects, you can apply as a mentor (if you have little time to dedicate to the Oceanthon) or as a nanny (if you have more time to dedicate).
In both cases, to participate in the Oceanthon it is necessary to fill out the specific participation form within the deadlines set for the current edition.
