National Comittee
National Decade Committees
The National Decade Committees (NDC) were created to facilitate the national coordination of Decade activities. These multi-agency and multi-stakeholder national platforms involve national political and scientific institutions as well as actors interested in the ocean and its management. Existing national coordination mechanisms can provide the foundation for carrying out such functions.
In Italy, the National Decade Committee is chaired by the Italian Oceanographic Commission (COI), hosted by the National Research Council (CNR), and coordinated by Dr. Rosalia Santoleri, Director of the Institute of Marine Sciences, ISMAR, of the CNR.
The COI website is https://dta.cnr.it/coi-commissione-oceanografica-italiana/ and the email address is segreteria.coi@cnr.it.

The National Decade Committees (NDC) were created to facilitate the national coordination of Decade activities. These multi-agency and multi-stakeholder national platforms involve national political and scientific institutions as well as actors interested in the ocean and its management.
The active involvement of various stakeholders, including the scientific community, national and subnational governments, United Nations bodies and intergovernmental organizations, businesses and industries, philanthropic foundations, NGOs, and Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs), is essential for the success of the Ocean Decade.
The National Committee will engage the national ocean community and facilitate the co-design of initiatives (programs, projects, and contributions) among stakeholder groups that can be approved as Decade actions. It will also facilitate the hosting of sub-regional or regional meetings related to the Decade.
The Secretariat of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission has undertaken a structured engagement with the National Decade Committees, beginning to organize regular informal meetings to provide updates on the Decade’s progress, the Decade action approval process, and guidance on various engagement mechanisms, including the Stakeholder Forum, Decade Collaboration Centers, and Decade Implementing Partners.
The Global Stakeholder Forum provides a platform to promote exchange and cooperation between the National Committees.
National Committees can use the logo of the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) to implement or coordinate national outreach and communication activities in accordance with the Ocean Decade Brand Guidelines.
