Educate and engage young people on the importance of the ocean for our planet, our health, our future. With this goal on June 8, 2021, on the occasion of World Oceans Day, the Venice office of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO organized the free event “Between past and future: towards the Ocean Generation” as part of the Decade of Marine Sciences for Sustainable Development in Italy. A day full of activities and sector meetings, an opportunity to launch, as part of the Decade of the Mediterranean Sea, the Oceanthon 2021 – the hackathon entirely dedicated to the ocean, open to all Mediterranean countries and organized as part of pre-COP26 – and the Woman of the Sea 2022 award, a recognition dedicated to young female figures committed to safeguarding the ocean, not only in the scientific field.
