To celebrate World Oceans Day on 8 June 2022, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) invites everyone to participate in the dedicated event both online and in person in Venice. The event is part of the United Nations Decade of the Sea and the EU4Ocean programme of the European Commission.
Participation in the event is free, upon reservation. The event will be in English.
The day includes three different moments:
Launch of the Ocean&Climate Village catalog
14.30-15.30 CEST – only online
IOC-UNESCO will open the event with the presentation of the Ocean&Climate Village catalogue, the first travelling exhibition dedicated to the ocean-climate nexus, to make cities a place of learning about the sea with the aim of promoting the Ocean Generation. The Ocean&Climate Village catalogue brings the experience of the exhibition beyond its temporary nature and will allow you to immerse yourself in the wonder of our global ocean.

EU4Ocean Webinar “Current status and future outlook for marine renewables”
15.00-16.00 CEST – only online
Webinar “Current status and future outlook for marine renewables”, part of the EU4Ocean program of the European Commission and moderated by Daniele Moretti, SkyTG24. The webinar will focus on the link between Ocean Education and Blue Energy, to foster the transition towards a sustainable Blue Economy. The webinar will be attended by:
- Davide Villa, Chief Customer Officer, and Board Member E.ON
- Gianmaria Sannino, Chair of the Implementation Working Group “Ocean Energy ” for the European Commission Strategic Energy Technological Plan and Head of the Climate Modelling Laboratory and Impacts of ENEA

The webinar will close with videos of best practices from the Ocean Literacy Community of professionals and practitioners presented in English.
Blue Aperitif
18.30-19.30 CEST – offline at the Hotel Ca’ di Dio (Venezia) by reservation only
The event will end with a Blue Aperitif, an interview and chat at the Hotel Ca’ di Dio (Venice, Italy) between the actress and influencer Diana del Bufalo and Marta Musso, marine biologist and winner of the Donna di Mare 2022 award.
