Save The Wave – Protect Mediterranean Ecosystems
Help us protect and reforest endangered species and ecosystems.
Together with our partners, we continuously activate projects to safeguard, protect and reforest species at risk.
This is how Save the Wave was born, starting from the idea of protecting and restoring the marine ecosystems of the Mediterranean. We chose to pay particular attention to the meadows of Posidonia oceanica and coral populations. Carried out in collaboration with E.ON, with this action we promote citizen awareness of the fundamental role of marine ecosystems and Blue Carbon to mitigate climate change and achieve a healthy, resilient and productive ocean by 2030.
Starting from the Gulf of Palermo
We started from Sicily: together with Dr. Antonio Scannavino and with the contribution of our partner E.ON, Save The Wave began in 2022 in the Gulf of Palermo. Objective: to regenerate the Posidonia ecosystem already existing in that area.
The project includes two main phases, the reforestation of 100 square meters of Posidonia through the involvement of active citizens and local fishermen and the implementation of dissemination activities of the project, through virtual reality technology, involving classes from schools in Palermo.
Mediterranean Objective
From the Gulf of Palermo, Save the Wave has the ambition to embrace the entire Mediterranean basin and regenerate not only the Posidonia oceanica meadows, but also to broaden the focus of action to other marine ecosystems important for biodiversity.
Save the Wave therefore aims to create a network of projects for the recovery and conservation of marine ecosystems by creating synergies between companies, researchers, universities, and non-profit organizations that launch projects on site.
